Olympia police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found along the Chehalis Western Trail on Tuesday.

Officers found the man, estimated to be in his mid 30s, in a tent after being led there by a person who initially found the body, Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said.

A 911 caller reportedly told dispatch at about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday that they heard someone found a body in a wooded area by the trail, Lower said. Officers contacted the caller who connected them with the witness, he said.

Lower described the scene as a single tent campsite with no other people around. He said it appeared the man had died several days ago. It’s unclear if drugs were involved, but there were no signs of foul play at the scene, he said.

The Thurston County Coroner’s Office took the body to be examined and identified, Lower said.

Anyone with information about the man can contact the Olympia Police Department at 360-753-8300.
