Lacey fire crews quickly put out a house fire Tuesday, but four cats didn’t make it out
Lacey firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire in Tanglewilde Tuesday evening, but four cats died in the home.
Lacey Fire District 3 responded to the blaze at about 6:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Thunderbird Court Southeast, Chief Steve Brooks said.
Fire crews arrived in about 5 minutes and put out the fire in about 10 minutes, Brooks said. The blaze was largely contained to the garage, but Brooks said there was significant smoke throughout the rest of the home.
All human occupants managed to escape the home, Brooks said. But in the aftermath, he said fire crews found four cats who appeared to have died due to smoke inhalation.
Lacey Fire District 3 shared a photo from the scene that shows smoke billowing from the roof of a one-story home. At least half a dozen firefighters and a large fire truck are shown just outside the home.
Olympia Fire Department and East Olympia Fire District 6 crews were called to the scene too, but Brooks said that call was canceled due to the quick action from Lacey Fire District 3 crews.
Fire crews stayed on scene for about three hours to investigate and help the family salvage what they could from the home, Brooks said.
Investigators were still determining the cause of the blaze Wednesday, he added.
