Rescue workers find missing boy in east Thurston County

Thurston County Sheriff’s Office reported that a missing 14-year-old boy and his dog were found Saturday morning with help from the military.

The boy had been lost in the woods near Braywood Lane Southeast, which is just off Yelm Highway and south of Highway 510. The rescue was made by the sheriff office’s search and rescue team with help from the U.S. Navy and Joint Base Lewis McChord, the office reports.

The boy was reported missing about 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to the dispatch log. The sheriff’s office reports that the boy had gone for a walk behind the family home around 5 p.m. in the woods, which border the JBLM property.

The boy was able to follow the sound of a U.S. Navy helicopter back out to the roadway where he and his 3-year-old golden retriever were found safely just after 9 a.m. Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office. The boy said he got lost when he chased after his dog and got turned around to the point where he couldn’t find his way out.
