Person flying motorized paraglider sent to hospital after crash landing near Lacey
One person was transported to a hospital in stable condition on Sunday after a crash landing by a powered paraglider, known as a paramotor.
Deputy Fire Chief Jennifer Schmidt said Lacey Fire District 3 was dispatched about 3:05 p.m. to the 6000 block of 75th Avenue Southeast, between Lacey and East Olympia, after a person called in saying they had seen a person with a parachute fall from the sky. The caller said they saw them hit the roofline of a house and hit the ground.
Schmidt told The Olympian the paramotor operator never lost consciousness and was stable the entire time. She said they were lucky that a doctor was on scene to assess the person.
Schmidt said they transported the person to Providence St. Peter Hospital by Medic 3. It was still unclear Monday what caused the crash landing.
Schmidt said the department is used to providing mutual aid to parachutists from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, helping when the wind knocks people into trees during training, but this case was a first for her.
Lacey Fire District 3 posted on its Twitter just after 4 p.m. Sunday, stating it had cleared the crash alongside the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and East Olympia Fire Department.
