Lacey City Council heard an update on land-use projects throughout the city this week, including a new proposal called Williams Crossing.

The Olympian also reached out to the city about the status of two projects that generated some controversy: Meridian Market & Gas, a convenience store with gas pumps that has been approved for northeast Lacey, and two apartment projects approved for the west shores of Hicks Lake.

Some projects of note:

Williams Crossing: A 262-unit apartment proposal has been pitched for the 5200 block of 15th Avenue Northeast on previously unincorporated land recently annexed into the city of Lacey. The comment period closes on April 25, senior planner Sarah Schelling told the council. Send your comments to sschelli@ci.lacey.wa.us.

Seventh Avenue apartments: A 376-unit proposal, with 18,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, has been pitched for a largely unused parking lot east of Huntamer Park. Building permits are under review, said Schelling.

629 Woodland Square Loop: Owners of a former office building near Huntamer Park have received land-use approval to convert the building into 58 apartments, a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom units, Schelling said.

The Lodge at Lacey apartments: A 94-unit apartment proposal is near a sister project called Serenity, which is at 444 Carpenter Road SE. The project has received land-use approval and building permits are under review.

The Hicks Lake apartment projects: A building permit is under review for the Gayteway Apartments and a civil permit has been obtained by Schneider Homes, but it has no building permit, according to city information.

Meridian Market & Gas: Developers of the approved project at 8808 Campus Glen Drive NE have submitted a grading permit that is under review, according to city information.

The Marriott Hotel at Britton Plaza: The Marriott Hotel proposal in northeast Lacey received land-use approval in October 2022 and was issued a grading permit in January 2024.

“If site work does not begin within six months of issuance (and if no extensions are granted) the permit and land use approval will expire,” said Vanessa Dolbee, the city’s community and economic development director.

The Marriott Hotel proposal is not to be confused with two other hotels pitched to the city.

A company called 111 Gateway Enterprises LLC is proposing to develop the extended stay Homewood Suites by Hilton and a Tru by Hilton on land at Hogum Bay Road and Marvin Road Northeast.
