Hotel, restaurants and more coming to new commercial development in Tumwater
A new commercial development is under construction in Tumwater, a city official told The Olympian this week.
Kingswood Commercial, which is under development at Kingswood Drive Southwest at Littlerock Road, will bring several new businesses to the city, Community Development Director Mike Matlock said.
Those businesses are a TownePlace Suites hotel, fast-food restaurants Wendy’s, Chipotle and Starbucks, and a Valvoline auto lube business.
The project is being developed by KCI Commercial of Tacoma, according to city information.
Other business happenings
A new bagel shop called Sixth Borough Bagels is taking shape at 1617 Harrison Ave. NW in west Olympia. This is the same building as Doos Donuts.
The Olympian could not reach the owner, but you can follow the business on Instagram for updates. The business previously announced that it was opening a retail location.
Last week The Olympian wrote about Photosynthesis, a business that has combined synthesizers and flowers in downtown Olympia. Now, we have received an email about another intriguing endeavor.
A curiosity shop called Odds & Ends is set to open Memorial Day weekend at 120 Fourth Ave. E., according to the email.
“We’ll have a variety of taxidermy, wet specimens, vintage cameras, and pieces of macabre available to view and purchase. Along with those items will also be jewelry, home decor, clothing, and even some items for the kiddos. The ethos that (business owner) Tanner (Atchinson) focuses on is the science and art of these pieces. They’re not just a study in biology, but can also be quite stunning and beautiful to gaze at.”
The grand opening is May 24, according to the email. The Olympian was unable to reach the owner.
Real estate
A Rob Rice Homes’ project called Vista Views at Black Lake continues to advance and is now set to come before Tumwater’s Development Review Committee for a preliminary site plan review, according to city information.
Rob Rice Homes proposes to subdivide about 54 acres into 186 residential lots at 3717 49th Ave. SW.
Thurston County has received a notice of application for Ridgeview Estates, a new subdivision pitched for 9520 Steilacoom Road SE in Lacey’s urban growth area.
“The applicant proposes to subdivide approximately 16.64 acres into 65 single-family residential lots and open space tracts for stormwater, tree preservation and community access,” the notice reads. “A public road system will be constructed to provide access, although two private lanes also are proposed. City of Lacey sewer and water utilities are proposed to serve each lot. ... The internal road system will be connected to Steilacoom Road Southeast on the south side and Torden Lane Southeast on the east side of the site.”

Banking
Olympia Federal Savings reported assets totaling $969.3 million at the close of its fiscal fourth quarter ending on March 31. This represents growth of $47.8 million since the beginning of its fiscal year on April 1, 2023, according to the thrift.
One of the highlights from the year: Olympia Federal’s Two Cent program, in which the bank donates two cents to a local charity for every customer debit card transaction, contributed more than $34,000 to local nonprofits, based on more than 1.7 million debit card transactions in fiscal year 2024.
