Man enters bank wearing a mask, asks for money, apologizes and leaves, Olympia police say
A would-be bank robber had a change of heart last week, according to Olympia police.
About 4:50 p.m. Monday, June 3, a man entered the Washington Federal branch in the 1500 block of Cooper Point Road Southwest. The man was wearing a hat, gloves and a mask, Police Lt. Paul Lower said.
After he entered the branch, an employee approached him and asked him to remove the mask. He replied with “give me the money, give me the money,” then changed his mind, Lower said.
The man suddenly said that he must be in the wrong place, apologized and turned around and left, Lower said.
So, was it a crime?
No weapon was shown and no overt threat was made, so police will categorize it as a “suspicious circumstance,” Lower said. As a result, police will share the information with other law enforcement agencies to see if they are looking for a bank robbery suspect, he said.
