A 51-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly rammed an Olympia police patrol car on the city’s west side.

About 7 a.m. June 12, police were dispatched to the Olympic National Forest headquarters in the 1800 block of Black Lake Boulevard Southwest. An employee had called police to report a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot, a vehicle that had reportedly been there all night, Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said.

Police arrived and contacted the driver, telling him he needed to leave, but he refused, Lower said. The officers continued to talk to the man, then finally told him they were going to arrest him for trespassing.

It was then that the car engine started and the vehicle was put into reverse. The driver crashed into the front end of the patrol car, then down its side before reversing through the parking lot and into the trees, Lower said.

Police called for aid and more police arrived to help. One of the officers blocked the suspect’s vehicle so he could not leave.

The 51-year-old man was booked for first-degree assault, Lower said.
