A 23-year-old Centralia man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault on Sunday for his alleged role in a shooting, according to police.

Sometime early Sunday — police did not identify a time in their news release — officers were dispatched to the 600 block of South Tower Avenue, near downtown Centralia, following a report of a person with a gunshot wound.

The victim, also 23, suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso, according to police. That person was first taken to Providence Centralia Hospital, then transferred to Tacoma General for trauma care, police say.

Police added that at the time of the news release announcement (about 8 a.m. Sunday), “the victim was still receiving critical medical care.”

Police also found a firearm on the ground near the victim.

The Olympian has requested more information.

The incident is under investigation, according to the release.
