A 34-year-old Lacey woman was killed in a wreck Monday afternoon near Port Angeles, according to Washington State Patrol.

She died at the scene. The woman was identified Tuesday morning as Leah K. Nyakundi.

About 1:40 p.m., Nyakundi was headed east on U.S. Highway 101, east of Delguzzi Drive. A second driver was headed in the same direction, according to State Patrol.

Troopers say Nyakundi crashed into the rear of the second vehicle, then kept driving east. She then crossed the center line and drove off the highway into a westbound ditch where her vehicle rolled and struck a tree, troopers say.

The second driver, a 58-year-old Port Angeles man, was injured and taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles. The road was fully blocked for more than three hours after the crash, according to State Patrol.

The wreck is under investigation. It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
