Oakville man who was injured in an Interstate 5 wreck in March has died

An 80-year-old Grays Harbor County man who was injured on Interstate 5 in March has died, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The State Patrol announced William J. Wirtanen’s death on Friday. Wirtanen died at Tacoma General Hospital, according to State Patrol.

About 3:15 p.m. March 11, Wirtanen was driving north on I-5 near Chehalis in Lewis County. Troopers say the man changed lanes in his Honda Civic and crashed into a semi-trailer headed in the same direction.

Following the crash, the Honda wound up facing the wrong direction on the freeway.

A 59-year-old Battle Ground man who was driving the semi-trailer was not injured.
