The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Yelm area home early Sunday after a woman was shot. While the investigating team was still there, they heard a second shot, a spokesman for the department said.

About 7:25 a.m. Sunday, deputies were dispatched to reports of a shooting in the 16900 block of 148th Ave. SE, which is south of Yelm near Lake Lawrence.

A woman had been shot and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition, Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Brooks said.

As deputies began to investigate and track down witnesses, another gunshot was heard, Brooks said. The investigation was paused and SWAT members were called to the scene.

Brooks said they had the equipment and gear to do a tactical search of the property.
