A 51-year-old Spanaway man was sent to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after crashing his motorcycle into an embankment in Grays Harbor County on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on State Route 8 near McCleary, about 10 miles west of Summit Lake, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

The motorcyclist reportedly failed to negotiate a curve as he took the off ramp to Mox Chehalis Road. He struck an embankment and his motorcycle came to rest in the “gore point,” the triangular area between a highway and an entrance or exit ramp, the memo says.

First responders had the motorcyclist airlifted to Harborview, the memo says.

State Patrol believes the cause of the crash was negligent driving, but the memo notes that it was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The memo says charges may be pending. The motorcyclist reportedly wore a helmet and his motorcycle was totaled in the crash. No other people or vehicles were involved.
