A driver struck a bicyclist on College Street near Lacey City Hall Wednesday morning, prompting traffic delays in the area.

The collision occurred about 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of College Street and Third Avenue Southeast, Lacey Police Sgt. Jeremy Knight told The Olympian.

The bicyclist, a 42-year-old Olympia man, was attempting to travel west on the north crosswalk at College Street when the driver struck him, Knight said. The driver, a woman in her 70s, was turning left from Third Avenue, he said.

An ambulance transported the bicyclist to Providence St. Peter Hospital to be evaluated for a head injury, Knight said. Lacey police cited the driver for failing to yield. They do not suspect impairment, he said.

Lacey Fire District 3 responded to the scene and shared a few details about the incident in a Facebook post.

Photos from the scene showed a black bicycle on the ground in the middle of the road, an ambulance parked in front of it and a large firetruck parked in the intersection. The post says the bicyclist was transported from the scene in “stable condition.”

Police closed multiple lanes of traffic to investigate the collision, according to the post. Knight said police cleared the call just before 10 a.m.
