The Washington state Department of Fish and Wildlife is asking for the public’s help identifying and locating a suspect after a deer was shot with a crossbow in Lacey on Tuesday, the agency announced on social media.

The black-tailed doe was shot in the neck, according to the post.

WDFW Wildlife Conflict Specialist Ryan McNiff “immobilized the doe, removed the bolt, and she was back on her feet and reunited with her fawn soon after waking from anesthesia,” the post said.

“The bolt appears to have come from a pistol crossbow, which is used for recreational target shooting and is not a normal or legal piece of hunting equipment,” agency officials said in the post. “A similar incident was reported last month in Aberdeen, where another doe had been shot in the side with the same type of weapon.”

Anyone with information about the Lacey or Aberdeen incidents is asked to call WDFW police at 877-933-9847.

McNiff was dispatched about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to a home on Clearwater Drive Southeast, which is west of Carpenter Road and north of Mullen Road in Lacey.

WDFW spokeswoman Bridget Mire said the Aberdeen incident also happened in a residential area.
