Meet Maverick, Thurston County’s cutest dog
Maverick, who turns two years old in November, came into his human family’s lives in February 2023. Ryan Deoskey, Maverick’s dad, said in an interview that Maverick was only three months old when he surprised his girlfriend, Kathryn Fittinger, on Valentine’s Day.
“We actually got him two years ago now on Valentine’s Day, and I don’t think I can top getting a Valentine’s present that good. We always joke about that,” Deoskey said.
Deoskey said he and his girlfriend had been looking into adopting a pomsky after they came across a pomsky on TikTok. While they were doing their research, Deoskey received a call from a family friend who said they were looking to rehome their pomsky since he was too energetic.
A pomsky is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian husky.
“He’s super, super energetic, like, I cannot explain to you, every single time we get home, he is just, he’s bouncing off the walls and I love that about him, and that’s just how he plays,” Deoskey said.
Maverick joined Deoskey and Fittinger’s pack which includes a 7-year-old pit bull named Luna, 2 cats and a turtle. Deoskey said they recently made the decision to add another pomsky to their pack who’s name is Goose.
Deoskey said Maverick was the perfect addition to the family and hit off perfectly with their pit bull Luna who has taken on a motherly role in Maverick’s life.
“We didn’t know how our pit bull would react to him, but she immediately, went into motherly mode and it surprised us because she’d sit there and groom him, and cuddle with him,” Deoskey said. “It was just a complete 360 of what we thought would happen when we brought him home to her, and it just made our hearts so happy because we were just not expecting that.”
Maverick completed a full American Kennel Club training course by the time he was about four months old, Deoskey said. Maverick enjoys playing with all of his pet siblings, playing fetch and most of all his pup cups, which was the very first treat his parents gave him after picking him up.
“The night that we got him, we got to do his first pup cup and his first snow,” Deoskey said. “Honestly, I couldn’t make it any more cool as a Valentine’s Day present.”
