A Tumwater driver was among several confronted by a wrong-way motorist near Federal Way Friday night, according to Washington State Patrol.

About 9:30 p.m. Friday, the 20-year-old Tumwater man, plus two other drivers, were headed north on I-5, exiting to South 272nd Street. Meanwhile, a 58-year-old Milton man, suspected of driving under the influence, was headed in the opposite direction in the northbound lanes, according to State Patrol.

Troopers say the Milton man triggered a four-vehicle wreck, and continued to accelerate in the wrong direction. He finally drove off the road, rolled his vehicle and it came to a stop on its top, according to State Patrol.

The three other drivers came to a stop on the ramp, blocking it for nearly four hours.

The Tumwater man and his 18-year-old passenger from Roy were not injured, according to State Patrol.

A 30-year-old Bellingham driver also was not hurt, but a 22-year-old Federal Way driver was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Milton man also was taken to Harborview, according to State Patrol. In addition to a possible DUI charge, he faces a vehicular assault charge, according to State Patrol.
