A 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes after she crashed into a car being driven by Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders early Sunday morning.

Sanders, never far from social media, provided an update after he was released from Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

“My passenger is OK, and I just got released from St. Peter’s Hospital for normal car crash injuries. My car, on the other hand, probably won’t survive,” he said.

Around midnight Sunday, Sanders said he was driving down Martin Way “when a vehicle veered into the oncoming lane then tried to turn in front of me, t-boning my car,” he said in his update.

“The driver then fled the scene, dragging their bumper down the road,” he said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including Lacey police, which found the unoccupied vehicle down the street. A police dog found the woman hiding in the bushes, Sanders said. She was arrested near Hensley Street Northeast at 12th Avenue, behind Winco Foods.

The woman, whose occupation was identified as “military,” according to Thurston County jail information, was booked on suspicion of hit and run with injury and driving under the influence.
