Three people suffered injuries in a two-vehicle wreck that closed U.S. Highway 12 in Grays Harbor County on Tuesday.

The collision occurred at 1:43 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 12, Keys Road and 4th Street, which is west of Elma, according to a Washington State Patrol.

The driver of a blue Hyundai hatchback reportedly collided with a westbound, white Kia sedan as the Hyundai attempted to turn left from US-12 onto northbound 4th Street. The hatchback came to rest on the westbound shoulder while the sedan blocked both westbound lanes.

A helicopter touched down on the highway to transport the driver of the hatchback, a 27-year-old Elma man, to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

A 32-year-old Lacey woman who was riding in the hatchback was transported to Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma along with the driver of the sedan, a 55-year-old Aberdeen woman, the WSP reported. No other people were involved in the collision.

Troopers believe the hatchback driver failed to yield to the sedan. He may now face a second-degree negligent driving charge, according to WSP.

Trooper Katherine Weatherwax shared on X that the collision blocked the highway for two hours.
