The Lacey Fire District 3 battled a wind-driven house fire Wednesday afternoon in the Meadows neighborhood.

Two men in the house were uninjured. A dog suffered minor burns and was treated, Battalion Chief Tim Hulse said. The fire was extinguished about 5 p.m.

Four residents — three adults and a child — were displaced by the fire, according to Colin Downey of the American Red Cross. The Red Cross provided emergency food, shelter and medication for the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire started just after 3:30 p.m. on the back deck of a house at the corner of Deerbrush Drive Southeast and Deerbrush Court Southeast, Hulse said.

An occupant of the house went to retrieve a garden hose to put out the fire, but the fire had grown too big when he returned, Hulse said. The fire had reached the attic by the time fire crews arrived on the scene, he said.
