Monday’s wind storm left more than 22,000 PSE customers in Thurston County without power
There were still a few thousand Puget Sound Energy customers in Thurston County without power as of 8 p.m. Monday, Nov.. 4, after wind gusts of up to 45 mph had knocked down trees and power lines throughout the region.
PSE spokesperson Gerald Tracy said the worst of the wind is over, and PSE had restored power to more than 20,000 customers as of 5 p.m., with more to come.
Tracy said a total of 24,211 Thurston County customers were affected at one point of another by power outages caused by the wind storm that rolled in Monday morning.
He said at one point during Monday’s wind storm the number of outages at once spiked at 12,000.
He shared some tips for people who are experiencing a power outage. PSE’s website outlines how to create an emergency kit. It should include water for 7 to 10 days, batteries, a flashlight, non-perishable foods and more.
Tracy said to avoid opening and closing your refrigerator and freezer as much as possible to keep the cool air inside.. He said food should stay cold enough for about 12 hours.
He also suggested unplugging electronics for when power comes back on, to avoid causing a power overload.
PSE advises people to never touch or go within 35 feet of a downed powerline, which could still be active. He said to call PSE about the downed line and 911 for any safety issues or concerns.
Tracy said to not use a charcoal or gas grill indoors when power is out, and be mindful of where you place a home generator.
