Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders made a traffic stop on Monday when he simply had to sit and watch as the offending vehicle simply drove right past him.

Sanders cited the driver for multiple violations, the sheriff announced in his own social media post.

Sanders was following a school bus, and the driver of a Honda Civic was following him, in the Yelm area Monday afternoon, he said.

“Right after the bus dropped a child off, I watched as the Honda behind me decided to pass both the school bus and I in a no-pass zone around a corner through an area that is a 50 mph zone,” Sanders said in his post.

He pulled the driver over, then discovered that the vehicle had expired tabs from 2018 and the driver did not have a valid license. Sanders also cited the driver for reckless driving.

The car was later impounded, he said.

“To those who don’t mind putting our children at risk: I don’t mind watching you walk home,” Sanders said.
