Election day is finally upon us, and for some community members, that means it’s time to start praying. Multiple churches in the Puget Sound region are hosting election day prayer vigils throughout the day from Seattle to Tacoma and Olympia.

The vigils are aimed at giving community members an open and peaceful place to pray. Everyone is welcome to come as they are.

In the Olympia area, midday vigils begin at noon at St. John’s San Juan Episcopal Church, located at Capitol Way and 20th Avenue in the South Capitol neighborhood. There will be an additional vigil at 5:30 p.m., and the sanctuary will remain open throughout the day for visitors.

According to an announcement from the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia, they will have “informal and interactive services, with music, prayers, scripture, and opportunities to light prayer candles.”

Westminster Presbyterian Church, at 1925 Boulevard Road SE in Olympia, will also host an election day prayer vigil from noon to 2 p.m.

According to a Facebook post, the church is holding the vigil, in part, to give neighbors a place to come together, regardless of their personal beliefs.

“Americans yearn for a better way to be in a relationship with one another,” states the church’s post.

Westminster’s election day event will include an open sanctuary for the prayer vigil, as well as an opportunity to “light” an e-light votive candle. Visitors are welcome to stay as long as they want, and a pastor will be on hand and available.
