Downtown Olympia eatery to close, plus openings and re-openings here, there and everywhere

Quality Burrito, a longtime cafe on Olympia’s Fourth Avenue, is closing, the business announced. The business had previously called on the public to help support it.

“We’ve been on the edge for so long now,” the announcement reads. “The hood motor’s dying has pushed us over. Our story is not unique, so we’ve decided not to get too sappy here. We have not survived the new times and it’s time to say goodbye. 22 years is a great run for any business, and in restaurant years, it’s a miracle. We will miss being a part of the community in this way, but are so grateful for the time we had.”

The last day of service will be Saturday, Nov. 30, according to the announcement.

Like father, like son

Jakob Pazar has followed his father, John Pazar, into the automotive glass repair business by opening Clear View Auto Glass in Lacey.

John Pazar used to run Genuine Auto Glass on Pacific Avenue and later on Martin Way, and his son worked at both locations. Now, Jakob is running his own business with his wife, Cheyenne, he said Thursday.

Jakob said he didn’t always want to run his own business, but then the “right time, right opportunity” came along.

Clear View is at 5711 Lacey Blvd. SE, Suite 301, which is across the street from the food trucks at the Lacey Depot.

The business operates by appointment, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Jakob said he does rock chip repair and windshield replacements, repairs door glass and will calibrate windshield cameras.

Openings, openings and more openings

An array of small businesses have opened, are opening, or are reopening in the area.

The Bus Stop, which has transformed the former Olympia Greyhound Station into a taproom and restaurant, has opened, according to its website. The business is at 107 Seventh Ave. SE. The Olympian took readers on a tour of the space in August, but its space is now finally open so people can see the restored building for themselves.

Dominic LaPraim and Jacqueline Johnston are bringing the landmark and long-vacant Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Olympia back to life. It will become The Bus Stop, a taproom and food truck location that will keep much of its original 1930’s deco feeling across from Sylvester Park.

Gene Juarez Salons & Spas a high-end salon that has done business in Tacoma for years, first at the mall and now downtown — is set to open at the Hogum Bay Town Center on Nov. 22. The town center development, which is also home to 23 Kitchens and Super Chix, is at Marvin Road Northeast and Willamette Drive.

The new location will have 14 salon stations and two private skincare rooms. Services include haircuts, color, styling, and relaxing services, facials, waxing, eyelash and brow services, and bridal and special occasion hair, according to a news release.

Speaking of the town center, Humble Cow Ice Cream, which opened its first location at Briggs Village on Henderson Boulevard in Olympia, is also headed to the Hogum Bay development this fall, the business says.

Other openings:

Yummy Crab has opened in the former Izzy’s restaurant space at Pacific Avenue Southeast at Lilly Road Southeast.

Bits Cafe, a cozy west side spot for breakfast and brunch, has reopened for service on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It’s located at 903 Rogers St NW, Olympia.

A business called The Rosarium, which bills itself as an esoteric apothecary and bookstore, is having a soft opening at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at 408 Washington St. SE, according to social media.

Oracle Bagels also has opened in Olympia, but it doesn’t have a storefront. Their plan is to offer bagels for delivery or pickup on Friday afternoons. Keep tabs on them on Facebook.

Here’s their back story.

“We are Chrisstine Gulrajani and Serena Portal. Oracle Bagels is a direct-to-consumer bagel bakery in Olympia, WA. We also offer custom cream cheeses and hand-crafted beverages,” their announcement reads.

“Oracle Bagels is inspired by Adam’s Bagels, which was run in Olympia by our friend Adam Dealan-De until his death in March 2023.

“Adam was in the process of making bagels when he passed. As fate would have it, Chrisstine and Serena ended up in the church basement kitchen with some friends and the remainder of Adam’s bagel dough that morning.

“There was nothing to do but to make his last batch of bagels.

“We really wanted someone to take over the Montreal-style bagel business.

“Turns out, that someone was us, a year and a half later.”

The Thurston County Chamber of Commerce recently hosted ribbon cuttings for two new businesses: Dermatology Clinic for Animals at 8300 Quinault Drive NE, Suite A, in Lacey, and Capital Injury Law PS at 2401 Bristol Court SW, Suite D 101 & 102, in Olympia.
