A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes after he vandalized the Shelton site of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, the department posted on social media.

About 6:45 p.m. Nov. 14, the man was seen outside that building, standing near an employee entrance and an automatic gate, according to the post.

“Witnesses reported the individual throwing rocks at the building, destroying two windows, including one in the records office,” the post reads.

The man then fled to nearby Brewer Park in downtown Shelton where he “wielded a large stick, while refusing to comply with verbal commands” from law enforcment.

The man was detained after a brief standoff, according to the sheriff’s office.

Court records show the man was booked on suspicion of second-degree malicious mischief and third-degree theft.

Why is he facing a theft charge? The man is accused of removing a padlock, which meets the criteria for third-degree theft, the sheriff’s office said in its post.
