The Olympia City Council will soon have a vacant seat. Here’s how to apply

The Olympia City Council is now accepting applications for council member Lisa Parshley’s seat, Position #5.

Parshley will begin her role in the State Legislature as a Representative of the 22nd District alongside Beth Doglio in January, leaving her city council seat vacant. An appointee will fill the seat from Dec. 31, 2024, to Dec. 31, 2025, when it will be filled by the winner in next fall’s election.

The application is available on the city’s website. It must be submitted by 4 p.m. Dec. 13 to the council’s Executive Services assistant at dcarvalh@ci.olympia.wa.us.

To be considered for the position, signed and completed applications have to be submitted electronically and must include a resume and cover letter showing the person’s interest, general experience and skills for the position, and proof of voter registration, such as a copy of a voter registration card or online voter registration record.

Applicants also must live within Olympia city limits.

The City Council will discuss applications Jan. 7 and determine a slate of finalists to be interviewed Jan. 13. The appointee will be sworn in Jan. 14 at a City Council meeting and participate in the council’s annual goal-setting retreat Jan. 24-25.
