2 Olympia businesses and several cars damaged by suspect the same night, police say
A 34-year-old man who was arrested in November for damaging several cars was re-arrested Dec. 3 after Olympia police connected him to two additional crimes.
And it turned out that all three crimes were committed the same night, Olympia Lt. Paul Lower said Tuesday.
The first incident was reported about 2 a.m. Nov. 21 when police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Legion Way Southeast after a woman called to say that a man was in the bed of her truck.
Police arrived to find the man still in the truck, but he was evasive about why he was there, Lower said. They noticed bits of broken glass on his clothes and bloodied hands, which police later connected to seven cars that were damaged along Central Street near Legion Way.
The man was booked on suspicion of felony malicious mischief, but was later released, Lower said.
However, later that same day, police heard from the owners of Eastside Big Tom and Oly Curl, a hair salon, about damage to their businesses. Both businesses are on Fourth Avenue East near Ralph’s Thriftway.
Police reviewed video footage which showed that about 1:10 a.m. Nov. 21, the man allegedly entered the burger stand and proceeded to destroy equipment inside it. The damage to the business is estimated at $50,000, Lower said.
Shortly after that, the man headed down the street to Oly Curl and turned on a hose, then placed that hose near a back door and flooded the interior of the business, Lower said.
After that, the man allegedly damaged the cars on Central Street, Lower said.
The man was re-arrested Dec. 3 on suspicion of second-degree burglary and first-degree malicious mischief.
