A male driver crashed his SUV deep into a building early Friday near downtown Centralia, police say.

About 2:20 a.m., an officer saw the driver heading south on North Pearl Street and suspected he was driving under the influence.

However, when the officer turned on his emergency lights to pull the driver over, police say the driver drove away at a high speed.

Police pursued the driver until he drove the wrong way on North Tower Street.

Later, the driver attempted to turn east onto Center Street, lost control, hit a parked car and then crashed into a building “completely embedding itself inside,” police said in a news release.

The man was later seen running east on Center Street. A police dog track was unsuccessful.

Anyone with information about the driver is asked to call the Centralia Police Department at 360-330-7680.
