Man accused of hit and run tried to get a ride at Tumwater truck stop, Thurston Sheriff says
A man accused of hit and run was later found trying to get a ride at a Tumwater truck stop, Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post.
The evening of Dec. 11, deputies were dispatched to Case Road Southwest to what Sanders called a “serious T-bone collision where an occupant was possibly ejected.”
A witness saw the “at-fault driver” flee the scene, only to be found by a deputy at the Pilot Travel Center on 93rd Avenue Southwest where he was trying to get a ride, according to Sanders.
The 41-year-old man was taken into custody without incident about 6:40 p.m. Dec. 11, while the person whose vehicle was hit was taken to an area hospital, Sanders said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of hit and run with injury, hit and run unattended vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, obstructing a law enforcement officer and false reporting.
What was the false report? Sanders said in his post that the suspect tried to have the vehicle reported stolen after running away from it.
