A man was left unconscious Thursday afternoon after he was kicked and stomped outside an area store, according to Lacey police and Thurston County Superior Court records.

Police arrested a 39-year-old suspect, they announced on social media.

About 3 p.m., police were dispatched to the Dollar Tree in the 600 block of Sleater Kinney Road Southeast. That’s where they found the victim unconscious.

According to court records, a witness told police the victim was lying on the ground and urinating. The suspect then confronted him and “proceeded to kick him once in the abdomen, and then stomped on his head two times and finished the assault by kicking him in the abdomen a second time,” court records read.

The victim suffered three broken ribs and developed a brain bleed, according to court records. He was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for treatment and care.

Police later arrested the suspect near Interstate 5. During the arrest, police reported that he was combative and head-butted an officer. He was placed in a restraining device as a result, according to police.

The suspect also reportedly assaulted jail staff.

The man was booked on suspicion of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and third-degree assault of law enforcement, jail information shows.
