A 56-year-old man died at an area hospital after he was hit by two vehicles on Martin Way Monday night, according to Olympia police.

About 11:55 p.m., a driver was headed west on Martin Way, near Phoenix Street, and suddenly saw the man standing in the road. The driver hit the brakes, but still crashed into him, Lt. Paul Lower said.

The impact of the first crash spun the man’s body into a second lane where he was hit by another westbound vehicle, Lower said.

The man was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia where he later died, he said.

Both drivers remained at the scene, Lower said. Neither driver showed signs of impairment and both are cooperating with police, he said.
