Here’s why there was a large police response on Lilly Road in Olympia Saturday morning
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes Saturday morning after police say he assaulted his wife, threatened to kill her and then locked himself in an apartment, which prompted a response from Thurston County SWAT.
Olympia police were dispatched about 4:25 a.m. to the 100 block of Lilly Road Northeast, Lt. Paul Lower said Tuesday.
Around that time, the suspect had been arguing with his wife when police say he assaulted her. A seven-year-old girl tried to intervene, but the man yanked her out of the way by her hair, Lower said.
The 27-year-old mother and daughter then retreated into a bedroom while the husband grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his wife, Lower said.
A 59-year-old man, identified by police as a roommate, helped them get out of the apartment, he said.
Meanwhile, the suspect locked himself in the apartment and refused to exit, Lower said. SWAT negotiated with the man for about two hours, then finally forced the door open and took him into custody, he said.
The 31-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of simple assault, fourth-degree assault, harassment/threat to kill, unlawful imprisonment, obstructing law enforcement, resisting arrest, harassment and third-degree assault of a child, jail information shows.
