Looking to get rid of your natural Christmas tree? Here’s what you can do in Thurston County

Thurston County residents can have their natural Christmas trees picked up and recycled for free, according to Thurston County Public Works.

Residents can also drop off their natural trees at different facilities throughout the county.

According to the county information, folks should prepare their tree for recycling by removing all ornaments, lights, stands, nails and tinsel prior to drop off. Flocked natural trees are also accepted.

Drop-off locations

All Thurston County residents can drop their natural trees off at the Waste and Recovery Center located at 2420 Hogum Bay Road NE in Lacey. The service will be available from Dec. 26 to Jan. 19, with the exception of Jan. 1.

Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday as well as 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Customers with other waste in addition to their tree should expect to make two trips across the scale, according to the county information.

Rainier residents can take their trees to the Rainier Drop-Box Facility at 13010 Rainier Acres Road SE from Dec. 27 to Jan. 19.

The Rainier facility is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to Sunday.

Rochester residents can take their trees to the Rochester Drop-Box Facility at 16500 Sargent Road SW from Dec. 28 to Jan. 19. The facility is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tenino residents can take their trees to 418 Wichman St. S. from Dec. 26 to Jan. 12, and Yelm residents can take their trees to a designated dumpster at 15425 WA-507, at the intersection of Mill Road and WA-507, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 14.

Pick-up information

LeMay food and yard waste customers can place their tree in or near the food and yard waste cart in sections of 3 feet or less. Extra fees will be applied if you’re not signed up for food and yard waste collection. You can call LeMay at 360-923-0111 for more information.

Lacey residents can have their trees picked up by Boy Scouts of America Troop 222 on Jan. 4. Trees must have all decorations removed and they must be placed curbside in front of homes by 8 a.m.

Olympia garbage customers can also have their trees picked up. Customers with Tuesday/Wednesday service can have their tree picked up Jan. 11.

For Thursday/Friday service, pickup will be Jan. 18.

Trees must be placed in the regular garbage pickup spot by 6 a.m. on both days. Trees that are over six feet tall must be cut in half. For more information, call the city of Olympia at 360-754-8340.

Tumwater residents can place undecorated trees behind the curb near the closest main intersection beginning Jan. 6. They just have to make sure sidewalks, bike lanes and roadways stay clear of trees.

It may take several days for crews to pick up trees in Tumwater, according to the release. For more information, contact Tumwater Public Works at 360-754-4150.

Multi-family complex residents must check with your property manager for tree placement locations.
