Tumwater car fire shuts down bridge Sunday night

A pickup truck caught fire Sunday night on the Boston Street Bridge between the shuttered brewery property and I-5 in Tumwater.

The blaze and subsequent fuel leak led to police and fire units shutting down the roadway for cleanup.

According to the Tumwater Fire Department’s social media, the car fire happened at 5:04 p.m. Dec. 29.

Tumwater fire units arrived at the Boston Street Bridge at 5:09 p.m. where they found a pickup truck on fire. Crews extinguished the fire in six minutes.

Tumwater Police provided traffic control at the scene while all lanes of the bridge were temporarily closed. When the fire was out, Tumwater Public Works cleaned up fuel on the roadway.

The cause of the fire was an unspecified engine problem.
