Thea Ruth Whittle is Thurston County’s first baby of 2025, Providence St. Peter Hospital announced.

Whittle was born at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 1, weighing 5 pounds, 8 ounces and measuring 18.5 inches long, according to the hospital.

She is the third child for Kylan and David Whittle of Tumwater. All of their children have been born between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, according to the hospital.

“It’s going to be a very busy time, but I’m sure it will be fun,” said Kylan Whittle of future holidays. “It’s great we’re going to be able to raise our family and have all those holidays with people we love.”

Thea has an older brother, Luca, 4, and an older sister, Soren, 2. Kylan and David have been married for six years and are 2015 graduates of Tumwater High School.

According to the hospital, Thea wasn’t due for a few more weeks, but during a Dec. 31 appointment it was found that Kylan had high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia, a condition that makes the pregnancy high risk and often causes early delivery.

David was able to hold Thea at the time of delivery before she was taken to St. Peter’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

“She’s doing great and is a strong little girl,” Kylan said Wednesday. “There will be lots of monitoring and we’ll have to stay a couple of extra days, but hopefully we’ll be able to take her home soon to meet her siblings.”

There were no photos of Thea provided by her parents or the hospital.

The family was given a goodie package put together by the caregivers in the St. Peter Family Birth Center, and a second basket put together by the Davis family, whose daughter turned 18 on New Year’s Day, after being the first girl born at the hospital in 2007. The family has been bringing in a basket for the first girl born at the hospital since.

“We’re so thankful for everyone here at the hospital and the family who brought in the basket,” Kylan said.

The second baby of the year at the hospital came at 8:59 a.m., only a few minutes after Thea. There were four babies born at the hospital on New Year’s Day.
