Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders is reminding residents not to drink and drive after a recent arrest showed the driver was well over the Washington state blood alcohol limit of 0.08%.

During the afternoon of Dec. 31, a 911 caller reported that two men were drinking in the parking lot of an Olympia area grocery store. The caller then followed them as they drove to a Lacey address at Lacey Boulevard and Golf Club Road, Sanders said in a social media post.

It was in that area that a Thurston County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the vehicle and stopped it, Sanders writes.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .257, more than three times the limit.

“The Sheriff’s Office urges everyone to prioritize safety by always choosing a sober driver and never driving impaired,” Sanders writes.
