Two Thurston County Sheriff’s Office vehicles were damaged Saturday night when a driver accused of driving under the influence crashed into them, Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post.

Around 9 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were assisting Lacey police with a suspect who had fled on Martin Way East. A passing truck crashed into one vehicle, then veered and crashed into another, Sanders said.

The driver tried to flee from the scene but was stopped by a deputy near Martin Way and Desmond Drive.

“The driver refused to exit his truck, so his window was smashed out and he was extracted,” Sheriff Sanders said.

The Washington State Patrol took over the investigation and arrested the 47-year-old man on suspicion of resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, obstructing a law enforcement officer and DUI, according to Sanders.

No deputies or officers were harmed, and all three vehicles were towed from the scene, he said.
