Olympia driver hospitalized after two-car collision on U.S. 101 Tuesday, State Patrol says
A two-vehicle crash injured a 64-year-old Olympia woman on U.S. 101 in northwest Thurston County on Tuesday.
The collision occurred before 2:30 p.m. between Oyster Bay and Eld Inlet, according to a Washington State Patrol Press memo.
The driver of a blue Chevy pickup truck was traveling south behind the woman’s blue Mazda utility vehicle just before the collision. The Chevy driver, identified as a 37-year-old Olympia man, rear-ended the woman’s vehicle as she was attempting to turn left onto Holiday Valley Drive.
The collision pushed the Mazda across northbound U.S. 101 and the vehicle came to rest on the right shoulder. Meanwhile, the Chevy came to rest in the median.
First responders transported the woman to MultiCare Capital Medical Center in Olympia for treatment, the memo says.
The man was not injured, but he has been accused of vehicular assault, and is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Both vehicles were totaled in the collision. No other people or vehicles were involved.
The memo says the highway was partially closed for more than an hour.
