Olympia police are looking for more information about mail theft that happened in the Kempton Downs neighborhood last week.

Sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight Jan. 21, a community-style mailbox in the 2400 block of Craig Road Southeast was pried open and the mail was stolen, Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said.

Here are some tips to avoid mail theft:

Check mailboxes frequently.

Pick up mail immediately after it has been delivered.

If mail doesn’t show up, contact the people who sent it.

Report any suspicious activity.

Sign up for the Postal Service’s Informed Delivery, which will send you an email about your mail before it’s delivered.

Residents also can sign up for the Olympia Police Department’s weekly newsletter to get information about area crimes, Lower said. More information can be found on the city’s website under “police department.”

Anyone with information about the Jan. 21 mail theft is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
