Head-on collision in southeast Thurston County closes highway for three hours on Sunday
The Washington State Patrol responded to a head-on collision just west of Rainier in southeast Thurston County Sunday afternoon that sent both drivers and one passenger to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to a WSP news release, the collision happened at 4:07 p.m. on State Route 507 near milepost 20.
An Oregon woman driving on northbound SR507 lost control, slid into the southbound lanes and struck a vehicle with one passenger head on.
The Oregon woman’s vehicle came to rest blocking both northbound and southbound lanes of the highway. The collision pushed the other vehicle off the roadway and it came to rest down an embankment.
All three people were transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with injuries. Trooper John Datillo said in a social media post that it was a serious injury collision, and he advised drivers to be aware of the adverse driving conditions created by the wintry weekend weather.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, according to the news release. Drugs or alcohol were not involved, WSP reported.
The roadway was closed for two hours and 50 minutes.
