A 66-year-old man is facing criminal charges after he caused a wreck in south Pierce County Saturday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.

About 2:30 p.m., the Lewis County man, suspected of driving under the influence, was headed north on Eighth Avenue near McKenna. Meanwhile, two people from Yelm were headed east on state Route 702.

Troopers say the 66-year-old man ran a stop sign and they crashed into him. He is now facing a vehicular assault charge.

The two Yelm residents, ages 44 and 43, were hurt and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. The road was blocked for more than three hours after the crash.
