A medical emergency resulted in a two-vehicle collision that stalled traffic at a Lacey intersection Tuesday

Lacey police responded to Martin Way East and Marvin Road Southeast about 3:15 p.m. after witnesses reported the collision, Sgt. Jeremy Knight said.

A 41-year-old male driver crossed the lanes of travel while suffering a medical emergency and collided with another vehicle, Knight said. A witness reportedly initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene before police arrived. Police took over CPR until medics arrived and transported him to an area hospital.

Knight said the man’s heart stopped working but he regained a pulse before being transported. He remains at the hospital in critical condition, he said.

The Lacey Police Department advised the public to avoid the intersection due to a “significant traffic collision” in a 3:42 p.m. Facebook post. The department said the roadway had been cleared about an hour later.

The post said it was unknown if there were other victims at the time. Knight said the driver of the other vehicle was uninjured and no other people were involved in the collision.

“I certainly commend the citizen who assisted with CPR,” Knight said. “That’s what we love to see.”
