A 47-year-old man died early Friday morning after he crashed his vehicle into a power pole, according to the Thurston County Coroner and sheriff’s office.

About 4:20 a.m., Victor Rutt of Rainier was headed south on Old Highway 99 Southeast. He was believed to be driving at an excessive speed, said Sgt. Malcolm McIver on Friday.

The man is then believed to have lost control, over-corrected his steering and crashed into the pole, he said.

Rutt died at the scene, according to McIver. Multiple blunt force injuries were the cause of death, Coroner Gary Warnock said Friday.
