City of Olympia sends workers home early Wednesday ahead of forecasted storm
The City of Olympia is closing most facilities and customer service counters early on Wednesday ahead of the bad weather forecast for the evening.
Spokesperson Kellie Purce Braseth sent out a news release early Wednesday afternoon that said facilities will close at 3 p.m. She told The Olympian that staff were being sent home early ahead of the storm.
The 3 p.m. closure applies to The Olympia Center, Olympia Police Department customer service counter, Olympia Fire Department customer service counter, and City Hall customer service counter.
City parks will also be closed, and the City strongly recommends that, for their own safety, people stay out of the parks during the storm.
Public meetings scheduled for Wednesday evening for the Community Livability and Public Safety Committee and the Heritage Commission have been canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
The City’s Police and Fire departments’ staff will continue to be available to respond to emergencies. City staff will be active after the weather passes to address any of the storm’s impacts on the community.
City facilities and customer services counters are anticipated to reopen with normal business hours on Thursday, March 27.
The Tumwater School District also canceled evening activities ahead of the storm. There will be no evening athletic events Wednesday, and practices will conclude at 3:30 p.m. There will be no parent conferences after 3:35 p.m., nor any after school facility use.
The board meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. was canceled.
