Car vs. semi-truck crash on northbound I-5 closes lanes into Friday rush hour

Northbound I-5 is down to one lane at Berkeley Avenue Southwest following a car vs. semi-truck collision and could impact rush hour traffic, according to the state Department of Transportation on X at 3:16 p.m. Friday.

Medical aid, fire assistance, incident-response personnel and the Washington State Patrol responded to the wreck, the department posted.

Washington State Patrol spokesperson John Dattilo told The News Tribune that the car was the “causing vehicle” in the crash and is still on scene. The truck did not remain on scene, and troopers aren’t sure if the semi-truck was aware of its involvement in the collision, he said.

One of the passengers in the car “was transported to an area hospital with potentially serious injuries,” according to Dattilo. He added that a collision technical specialist has been called to investigate.

He didn’t have an estimated time for the three left lanes lanes to reopen, but said his guess would be at least a couple of hours. The wreck will impact rush hour, he said.

Traffic was backed up to near Mounts Road at 4:20 p.m., according to the WSDOT traffic map.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story misstated the street near the collision, based on information from the Washington State Department of Transportation. The collision happened near Berkeley Avenue Southwest.
