A cat and dog died in a fire that destroyed an RV in Lacey Sunday afternoon, according to Lacey Fire District 3.

A man was treated for minor burns to his hand, Battalion Chief Ryan Perz said. Another occupant of the RV was not there at the time of the fire. A second dog also was not hurt, he said.

Fire crews were dispatched to the Value Village parking lot at 604 Sleater Kinney Road SE at 5:12 p.m. and found the fire well underway, Perz said. The man was cooking food on a gas stove when it ignited some combustible liquids next to it, he said.

“It went off right in front of him,” Perz said.

The fire district’s support services team was able to get the two people temporary housing overnight. They also have reached out to the Red Cross, Perz said.
