Traffic backed up on northbound Interstate 5 in Lacey Sunday morning because crews needed to repair a concrete panel in the freeway, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The work took place on I-5 near Marvin Road, according to WSDOT information shared via social media.

It was not immediately clear if the concrete panel work had been scheduled or required a sudden repair. WSDOT announced the job about 10:25 a.m. Sunday.

“Road work on I-5 NB at MP 111.94 near Marvin Road NE/SR 510 beginning at 10:24 am on April 20, 2025, until further notice,” a social media post read.

Although traffic soon became congested, the project took only about 25 minutes.

“Thanks to the quick work of our maintenance crews, we’re clear on I-5 northbound,” WSDOT officials said about 10:50 a.m.
