A 62-year-old woman who was shot in Capitol Forest last week and died before she could be airlifted to an area hospital has been identified by the Thurston County Coroner.

About 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies and firefighters were dispatched to Capitol Forest, west of Olympia. That’s where they found Cathleen Kochheiser of Olympia, Coroner Gary Warnock said Tuesday.

The person she was with could not get cell phone service in the area, so that person drove the woman to a different area before calling 911, Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Brooks told The Olympian on Sunday.

The sheriff’s office is treating her death as suspicious and is investigating it, he said. The gunshot wound was to her lower chest, Brooks said.

Brooks on Sunday described the person she was with as somewhat cooperative, but so far not fully cooperative to the investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Thurston County Sheriff’s detectives at detectives@co.thurston.wa.us.
