Man facing manslaughter charge after road-rage incident on Sleater Kinney Road Saturday
A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes Saturday night, including first-degree manslaughter, after an apparent road-rage incident on Sleater Kinney Road resulted in another driver’s death.
That man apparently got out of his car, then suffered a medical emergency and died at the scene, Thurston County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Brooks said.
Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock said Sunday afternoon that the man who died was 58 years old and from Olympia. His name won’t be released until the man’s family has been notified, he said.
The man’s medical exam is set for Tuesday. That’s when the coroner’s office will determine whether the man’s death is related to the road-rage incident, Warnock said.
About 6:45 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of Sleater Kinney Road Northeast. Around that time, the 54-year-old man was following the victim driver, who had his children with him, and rear-ended his vehicle several times, Brooks said.
It was not immediately clear what triggered the road rage.
Both vehicles then stopped and the victim driver got out, only to suffer the medical event. The 54-year-old man then left the scene, according to Brooks.
The man was later taken into custody in the area of Monique Court Southeast at Holmes Island Road, near Long Lake, and booked into jail about 9:30 p.m., Thurston County jail records show.
The 54-year-old was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit and run attended (vehicle and/or property) and first-degree manslaughter.
