2 dead, 3 taken to hospital after alleged overdoses in downtown Olympia

Olympia Police responded to a report of several people experiencing a medical emergency early Monday morning in downtown Olympia.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and three others were taken to a hospital. Coroner Gary Warnock said both people pronounced dead were male, one 35 and the other 38. No other information was shared.

Police Lt. Paul Lower said the incident happened just after midnight Monday, May 12, in the 100 block of Legion Way Southeast. One person in the group called 911 to report they and others had ingested something and were possibly experiencing an overdose. The person was requesting that first responders bring Narcan.

Lower said OPD and the Olympia Fire Department responded to the incident at Stuart Place, an apartment building on the block. One person was outside, one was in a stairwell in the building and three others were in one of the apartments.

Fire staff treated people at the scene, and two were pronounced dead. Three people were taken to the hospital for medical evaluations.

Lower said all parties involved in the incident were adults. The incident is being investigated by the Thurston County Coroner and OPD detectives.
